Sophmore "I am" Statement(2023)
I am a hardworking student, who is constantly curious about learning about all of the things around me. I choose to see the world in many colors instead of black and white and look for new perspectives and find the beauty in all. I have learned to build connections to my community through learning in class and out. I always look ahead to what I am becoming while enjoying the journey on the way.
When I started my honors journey I was fresh out of high school and a first generation student. I decided to pursue honors because that was what I did in high school and I knew I would fit into the community. I choose to pursue English Education but switched to Elementary Education, but I knew that I wanted to become an educator.

Sophmore "I want to become" Statement (2023)
I want to become a person that enjoys everyday while working hard to meet my goals. I hope that my journey throughout the honors college will allow me to become a better teacher and person in the world. I hope to become a teacher that can help motivate students to find their place in the world and feel like they belong.
My biggest goal is to become an educator and learner that will help the world. I also think that it is important to become aware of my mental health and to learn how to better deal with it and to continue my self growth despite having a job that demands me to be there for others.
Through being an honors student I will have the chance to explore a perspective that not everyone has. I think this will help me to become a more understanding educator.

Making connections to my community will allow me to learn many new things that I can take into the field. Creating these connections will allow me to grow as a person but also to aid future students in the way that they get engaged. Overall I want to graduate with experiences that are helpful to my journey and are fulfilling to my personal well-being.
Senior "I am" Statement (2025)
I am a successful student and practitioner that is learning how to master her craft of teaching and creating. I don't just spend my days working hard but truly searching for the beauty in them. The roles that I serve in my community such as educator, director, tutor, and mentor teach me that everyone matters and that together we make beautiful things. I strive to care for all of the learners that I cross paths with. I believe that every individual deserves a chance to be seen and heard in the classroom and in the world.
Moving toward the future as a senior I have had many experiences both through classes and extra curricular that have influenced me in my career. Currently I work with kids in an elementary school, a high school writing center, and a theater troupe. Everyday I am reminded what it means to be an Honors Student and to go above and beyond.

When I wrote my journey map I was going into my second year at college and still adjusting to the lifestyle. The map is a reflection of my life before college and how those moments shaped me.

Looking at both of journey maps makes me see that both the person I was before college and career experiences is still a large part of who I am despite all of the new experiences. I can see how growing up shaped my choices to go into education and pursue success in academics.
For example something that is important to me now, and in the past, is theatre. From performing as a kid to now helping direct youth productions I can clearly see that I have a passion for the arts. I can see that the goals and achievements from my youth reflect the goals that I currently have as someone who is about to graduate.
